CardinalStone Research: Transnational Corporation of Nigeria Plc. H1'17 results - Earnings on path of historic year

Transnational Corporation of Nigeria Plc. (TRANSCORP) H1'17 results just out - Turnover increased by 38% to N34.2 billion, in line with our estimate of N33.1 billion (3.3% deviation). The Group reported after tax earnings of N4.2 billion from an after tax loss of N12.2 billion in the prior period.   

Based on our last review, the counter has a target price of N3.05 (BUY).

Other highlights:

·         On a QoQ basis, revenue increased by 17% to N18.4 billion (Q1'17: N15.8 billion). Revenues from the power and hospitality subsidiary jumped by 19% QoQ and 22% QoQ to N15.2 billion (Q1'17: N12.8 billion) and N3.4 billion (Q1'17: N2.8 billion) respectively.   

·         The power and hospitality subsidiaries benefitted from improved gas supply and the re-opening of the Abuja International Airport respectively.

·         Owing to a stable exchange rate within the reporting period, foreign exchange loss on financing activities dipped to N0.7 billion from N13.9 billion in H1'16.
