Â· The bears were not down for long as they regained top position after yesterday's stalemate as the NGX ASI lost 2bps to close the day and settle at 51,944.58 points. The year to date (YTD) returns on the market decreased to +1.35%. The sectoral performance was mixed as the Industrial Index (+0.16%) and Consumer Index (+0.05%) were bullish, whilst the bears were in control in Banking Index (-1.08%) and Insurance Index (-0.29%). The Oil & Gas Index (0.00%) closed flat yet again.

Â· The losses recorded in FIDELITY (-5.47%, N5.01), UNITYBANK (-3.77%, N0.51), JAIZBANK (-2.22%, N0.88) and FCMB (-1.30%, N3.80) depressed the Banking Index.

Â· The losses recorded in AIICO (-5.08%, N0.56), LASACO (-4.17%, N1.15) and NEM (-2.75, N3.89) depressed the Insurance Index.

Â· The gain recorded in CHAMPION (+7.64%, N4.35) sustained the Consumer Index.

Â· The gain recorded in WAPCO (+3.48%, N23.80) sustained the Consumer Index.

Â· Value traded was dismal as transactions worth only N4.4bn ($4.4mn) were consummated.

A few notable trades of the day were the transactions executed on; ZENITH: N517mn ($1.12mn), FIDELITY: N206mn ($446k), UBA: N190mn ($412k), TRANSCORP: N150mn ($352k) and AIRTEL: N152mn ($329k).
